The Gateway-In Project’s Mission: To expand and elevate California’s direct care workforce by providing accessible, high-quality training and career pathways for individuals dedicated to serving older adults and individuals with disabilities.
The Gateway-In Project’s Vision: To be the leading force in building a diverse, compassionate, and empowered long-term care workforce that ensures dignity and quality care for every Californian as they age.
California has the largest number of older adults in the country, and it is projected an additional 275,000 direct care workers will be needed by 2026 to meet the growing population. Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs), Home Health Aides (HHAs), Activities Professionals and Service Coordinators are a critical part of this workforce. In California, over 50% of CNAs work in nursing care facilities or community care facilities serving older adults. These positions play an essential role in these facilities and in home and community-based settings, often serving as the principal caregivers and having more personal contact with residents than any other staff member or family member.
LeadingAge California Foundation’s Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Training program through its Gateway-In Academy is your first step toward a rewarding role in the medical field—no prior experience required. Approved by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), this training program provides all the training you need to succeed. You’ll learn how to care for patients by assisting with daily activities like bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility, as well as taking vital signs and supporting overall comfort and well-being. This training program features flexible online learning followed by hands-on clinical training. In as little as five weeks, you’ll be prepared to take the California State Nurse Assistant Certification Exam and launch your career as a CNA in long-term care and other healthcare settings.
